The acceleration of the 5G connectivity network is an opportunity for Indonesians to not only become smart digital users, but also smart digital specialists and digipreneurs, an official from the Communication and Informatics Ministry has said.

"Not only become smart digital users, but Indonesian people are also expected to be able to become smart digital specialists and smart 'digitalpreneurs' who are able to create a lot of jobs here," director of standardization of post and information technology at the ministry, Mulyadi, remarked at an online seminar on Tuesday.

This is in keeping with the ministry’s recent policy to increase the local content requirement (TKDN) for all 4G and 5G devices to 35 percent, which will come into effect six months after its date of issuance, he noted.

The requirement has been regulated by the Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation Number 13/2021 on Technical Standards for 4G and 5G Subscriber Station Telecommunication Equipment and/or Mobile Cellular Telecommunication Device, he said.

"In addition, the regulation is in line with the President's directive to make Indonesia a smart player in the development of 5G networks," the director added.

Furthermore, Mulyadi informed that the government has prepared the Indonesia 5G Task Force to manage and expedite the development of 5G networks in Indonesia.

The ministry is also striving to synergize five policy aspects for realizing network development, he said.

The aspects comprise preparing the spectrum, business models, infrastructure, devices and ecosystems, as well as regulations, he added.

Mulyadi said the government is also assessing supply and demand in the 5G ecosystem.

"In terms of supply, we highlight the availability of frequency spectrum as well as the development of 5G infrastructure and its supporters," he informed.

Hence, the possible solutions to the matters are establishing the relevant regulation, conducting the analog switch, optimizing the government’s facilities to develop 5G networks, and building cooperation to improve the networks, he said.

Meanwhile, in terms of demand, the ministry is focusing on the availability of the network for all mobile phone segments, users’ urgency to use 5G services, and the absence of 5G use, he disclosed.

"Several solutions for the matters are encouraging handset manufacturers to provide 5G networks in all mobile phone segments, developing user apps/contents which require 5G features, and encouraging cooperation to develop 5G networks for vertical industries," the director added. (Antaranews)
