Indonesia and the Portuguese government plan to collaborate to accelerate digital transformation in the country. This was conveyed by the Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate after a meeting with representatives from the Government of Portugal.

He met with Portugal's Secretary of State for Administrative Digitization and Modernization Mario Campolargo. During the meeting, there were many discussions ranging from upstream and downstream infrastructure, cyber security, digital economy and digital talent.

"We discussed many things. Especially related to digital transformation," Johnny explained in a written statement, Sunday (25/9/2022).

The Minister of Communication and Information revealed that the relationship between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of Portugal was well established. As part of the European Union, the two countries are exploring cooperation in the digital sector.

"The European Union is also currently taking an approach in the framework of cooperation between the European Union and Asia Pacific and Portugal is part of the European Union. Of course this time we are discussing how the digital sector relationship between Indonesia and Portugal is," he said.

According to Johnny, currently Portugal has many telecommunications networks connecting Portugal - Africa in the Mediterranean region - South America and Central America. From the aspect of strategic position, Indonesia and Portugal can use the Portugal Network for the Atlantic Post, the East Coast of America.

"And, at the same time we are building a fiber optic network from Indonesia via the Pacific route, the West Coast of America. If we make infrastructure connections, especially data transmission via fiber optic, it will be more efficient," he said. (RRI)
